It is said to have originated in 1611, two years after Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga Domain, built a castle in Takaoka and established a castle town. To promote industry in the castle town, he invited casters (imoji: foundry workers) from Nishibu-Kanaya Village, Tonami County, Etchu Province (now Toide Nishibu-Kanaya, Takaoka City), who were descended from the birthplace of Japanese casting, Kawachi (now part of Sakai City and Matsubara City, Osaka Prefecture).\u003cbr\u003eTakaoka copperware initially produced ironware such as pots, kettles, plows, and hoes.
