About Artist

He calls himself a "yakimonoya" (pottery maker) rather than a "togei-ka" (potter), viewing his vessels as tools for daily life, intended to be used.

"There are some vessels that you can't make unless you eat delicious food," he says.
Hiraoka, who laughs heartily, enjoys traveling. When he travels, he savors the local cuisine, drinks sake, and eats until he is satisfied. He often visits restaurants that use his vessels, and the time he spends enjoying food and drink through his vessels seems to be the source of his inspiration for making them.

Vessels are tools for daily life, used at the everyday dining table.
That's why Hiraoka says, "I believe that the most important things for a vessel are how comfortably it fits in the hand and its feel to the mouth."

True to his words, Hiraoka's vessels exude a generous atmosphere that integrates into the user's life, allowing them to enjoy food and sake.
