This is a brass round tray.
Made by press-molding a 1.0mm thick brass sheet, this tray has a solid, substantial feel.
With its ultra-simple form and versatile size, it can be used for various purposes depending on your creativity—as an incense plate for stick incense, a tray for burning palo santo or white sage, an accessory tray, and more.
The surface has intentionally been left without a clear finish or similar coating to prevent oxidation. As a result, the brass will develop a unique patina over time—often referred to as "aging" or "weathering"—which you can enjoy as you use the product over the long term. Please note that discoloration may occur due to contact with oils from your hands, but this is a natural aspect of the aging process, not a defect. We ask that you understand this before purchasing.
■ About the Aging of Brass
Brass is a material used in many everyday items, from musical instruments and building materials (such as door handles) to Buddhist altar fittings and coins (the 5-yen coin), thanks to its excellent workability and high corrosion resistance. Another of its attractive characteristics is the way its texture and color change over time due to oxidation from air exposure and marks (oils) from handling.
As it ages, the initial luster gradually dulls, settling into a sophisticated, antique-like appearance.
We have intentionally omitted any surface coatings, such as clear lacquer, so that you can enjoy this aging process. We hope you will use it for a long time and enjoy the changing color and texture of the brass.
On the other hand, aside from letting it age naturally, another joy of using brass is maintaining it over time (polishing and caring for brass fittings and tools can be quite rewarding). If you wish to maintain or restore its original shine, it is simple to do so: you can regain the initial luster by polishing it with a metal polish (such as one for Buddhist altar fittings) available at local hardware stores.
