This is a sturdy tray formed by pressing a thick 1.0mm brass plate.
With its ultimate simple form and versatile size, it can be used for various purposes depending on your needs, such as an incense holder plate, a tray for burning Palo Santo or white sage, or an accessory tray.
Additionally, we have intentionally not applied a clear finish to the surface to prevent oxidation. Therefore, as you use it, the brass will undergo aging—or what is sometimes called "kare" (withered beauty)—resulting in a change in color over time, which you can enjoy as you use it for years to come. Please note that discoloration may also occur due to contact with natural skin oils; this is not a defect, but rather a normal aspect of the material's aging process since it lacks a clear coat. Please understand this before purchasing.
■ Regarding the Aging of Brass
Due to its excellent workability and high corrosion resistance, brass is used in various everyday items, from brass instruments and building materials (such as door handles) to Buddhist altar fittings and coins (the 5-yen coin). A key appeal of brass is its aging process, where its texture and color change over time due to oxidation from exposure to air and fingerprints (oils) from handling.
As the sheen gradually dulls through aging, it settles into a sophisticated, rustic, antique-like appearance.
For this product, we have deliberately omitted surface coatings like clear lacquer to allow you to enjoy this aging process. We hope you will enjoy the changes in color and texture—referred to as "kare" or "aging"—as you use this item over a long period.
On the other hand, while letting the material change naturally is one way to enjoy brass, maintaining it through regular care is also part of its charm (polishing and cherishing your brass hardware or tools is a pleasure in itself). If you wish to maintain or restore its original luster, it is quite simple. You can bring back the initial shine by polishing it with a metal cleaner (such as one for Buddhist altars) available at hardware stores.
