MONO-SOLUM 115 - Furogama Daiyo Toshihide -

・ABOUT
An art piece that traces the regenerated memory of the soil, traced and painted by the soil. Originating from the Cretaceous earth, Bizen soil has accumulated over thousands of years, and the soil has quietly embraced these memories within. Eventually, the kiln maker's flame stirs the clay from its deep slumber, and as if guided by its own memories, the clay begins to paint a unique expression.

MONO-SOLUM
Mono / single, Solum / soil

A silent story told by Bizen clay. This fragment, standing between the past and the future, brings stillness and depth to the space, gently evoking timeless memories in the hearts of visitors.

Furo Kiln Daikyo Toshihide is an artist born into the Daikyo family, one of the six families that produced Bizen ware, and has a kiln in Ibe, Okayama. At Furo Kiln, he captures the wonder of the "fire and earth" flavors that are born from the coincidence of earth and flame in his framed works. While inheriting tradition, he also challenges himself to combine expressions that are in line with modern life and different materials, exploring new possibilities for Bizen ware.

・Frame artist/Mayo Yoshida

Originally from Okayama Prefecture, he worked at a frame factory in Okayama City before apprenticing under a frame craftsman in Kurashiki City, where he learned the techniques of foil stamping and engraving. He went independent in April 2021 and began making custom-made frames. Fascinated by Italian frames from around the 14th century, he traveled to Italy and studied engraving and classical framing techniques at a frame workshop in Florence. He creates frames based on Italian frames from the 14th and 15th centuries.
