Petrified wood is a type of fossilized plant that is mainly from the Paleozoic to Mesozoic eras. Giant ferns such as "scale trees" flourished in the Paleozoic era, and cycads and ginkgo trees flourished in the Mesozoic era, taking over the generations. When fallen ancient trees are buried underground, groundwater containing silicon seeps into them due to the pressure of the strata, and over thousands to hundreds of millions of years, they are transformed into silicon oxide (silica). The fossilized trees, which do not change in shape, eventually move across continents due to crustal movements and emerge again on the surface. This fossilized wood has been produced mainly in Africa, North America, South America, Southeast Asia, etc., and has been traded for ornamental purposes. This process of forming silicified wood only occurs when certain natural conditions are met, and not all tree fossils become silicified wood. For this reason, silicified wood is still very rare today.
